What’s Happening

Join QA Consulting for our annual Symposium on Saturday 17 September at the Melia Sky Hotel, Barcelona

Breakfast

You have a busy day ahead of you with the keynote presentation and then breakout sessions from our technical leads, so we want to guarantee you get a good start to the day.

Breakfast is included in your stay and is served in the main dining area of the hotel. Please make sure you finish your breakfast before 9.45am so you can get to the Symposium before it begins. We would like you sat and ready before 9.55am please.

Keynote

We will be kicking off the Symposium with Managing Director, Tony Lysak, providing a view of the company’s phenomenal growth and our road map for the future.

Breakout Sessions

We have a number of exciting breakout sessions for you this year presented by our technical leads: David Wilcox; Angelica Charry, Anna Buchanan, Chris Pugh, Nathan McLean and Damon Williams.

Each session will be hands-on and we want to see everybody getting involved. They will all end with a mini hackathon to put your skills to the test!


Boat Party

After the Symposium join QA Consulting on a catamaran from 7pm-11pm. There will be food, drink and music, and it’s a brilliant way to catch up and relax after a day of presentations!

We will have coaches picking you all up from the hotel at 6.15pm and the catamaran will be departing from Port Barcelona at 7pm so don’t be late!

Breakout Sessions

DevOps Space

The DevOps Space, hosted by David Wilcox, DevOps Tech Lead, with the cooperation of Nathan McLean, Edward Williams and Thomas Haynes, will provide an insight into the philosophy of DevOps, and how we implement its principles to solve common challenges in Enterprise IT.

Throughout the sessions we will guide you through some of the key trends in DevOps today: Infrastructure-As-Code, Immutable Infrastructure and Containerisation, and Continuous Integration.

Application Development Space

The Application Development Space will be hosted by Angelica Charry, Principle Consultant of Application Development, with the cooperation of our skilled consultants Chris Poole, Callum Cooper and Tom Stacey. Together, they will take you through the land of the latest JavaScript frameworks telling you what is new and what you need to know about them.

For people not familiar with JavaScript, it is a language which allows us to implement amazing functionality and highly responsive websites!

Pega Space

The Pega Space will be hosted by the Pega Technical Leads, Anna Buchanan and Chris Pugh. Pega specialises in developing software for customer relationship management and business process management. Using a browser based UI, Pega allows you to define workflows and business rules, build out the application structure and define the interface which the users will see. All of this comes together to build a rich Internet application which supports and automates the business process. More details on the talks and the sand box area can be found below.

Puppet is a leading configuration management and automation tool. Pupper allows infrastructure state to be defined as code. In this talk we will explain best practices for testing, managing and promotion of Puppet code.

Time travel testing and Continuous Integration

Edward Williams

Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment have become the bedrock of development practices. This talk will demonstrate an innovative implementation of a CI pipeline, showing the benefits this brings. It will also explore a method of time travelling applications in testing using virtual clocks.

Integrating Puppet with Ambari for Hadoop Provisioning

This talk will discuss a method of using Puppet and Ambar to automate the deployment, configuration, management and monitoring of a Hadoop cluster instance.

We will take you through what Angular does in order to deliver the requirements of your website. Being a structural framework for dynamic sites, Angular lets you use your HTML as your template as well as extending your HTML’s syntax to express your application’s components clearly.

These apply to everyone who programmes and should help you to write nice and tidy code, which is fully understandable for everyone – not just you!

Building UI Testing in AngularJs with ng-moq

As important as it is to write unit tests for your server side code, unit tests for your webpages are equally valuable. UI testing is becoming increasingly important and Angular has its own way of delivering this. We will dive in showing you the best way to build your UI tests, reducing time in formal testing and potentially finding undiscoverable bugs.

Pega Marketing Frames

A friendly talk to beginners and intermediates. Pega has many frameworks, the most popular and largest is the Marketing framework. This will be an introduction to the unique capabilities the framework offers with live demonstrations on how you can set up some core functionality

Pega Express is a relatively new tool aimed at bringing the business closer to their software. It helps to facilitate rapid prototypes, the results of which can be elaborated on further in the full version of Pega. We’ll talk about why this is so useful and give live demonstrations.

Continuous Devliver in Pega

Chris Pugh

An advanced level talk aimed at regular users of Pega and the DevOps community. The talk will revolve around using continuous delivery principles with Pega, such as the importance of automated testing (and how to make this happen), ensuring that your code versioning strategy allows regular releases and how to use Pega’s tools to move your code between environments.
